✏️ Things to Do
Q1. Write the characteristics of a good listener.
Ans:A good listener does the following things:
- 1He or she looks at the person who is speaking.
- 2He or she pays close attention to the speaker.
- 3He or she tries to understand new or unfamiliar words spoken by the speaker from the context.
- 4He or she tries to keep listening even when he or she does not understand the speaker or disagrees with the speaker.
- 5He or she waits for the speaker to finish and is not afraid to ask polite questions.
- 6He or she notes down important points while listening and thinks carefully about what is spoken.
Q2. Listen carefully and guess how the sentence would end.

Students must listen to their teacher read these sentences aloud and write all the words correctly on their own in their notebooks.
🎯 Activities
(1) Sit quietly for some time. Close your eyes and listen carefully to all the sounds that you hear. Can you guess what sounds they are and who or what is making that sound? Note down what you heard.
Ans:Students must sit quietly, close their eyes, listen carefully, and note down all the sounds they hear on their own. Try this at different times of the day — morning, afternoon, and evening — to hear different sounds!
(2) List 5 of the sounds that you like and 5 of the sounds that you don’t like.

Q5. Form groups. Discuss how one can be a ‘good reader’. Use the points in the above passage in your discussion. Write down the points that show what makes a ‘good reader’.

A good reader tries to guess the meanings of new or unfamiliar words from the context.
A good reader is not shy or afraid of asking questions to clear doubts.
A good reader visualises while reading — he or she imagines the scenes and characters in the mind.
