Q1. Write the characteristics of a good listener.

Ans:

A good listener does the following things:

1He or she looks at the person who is speaking.
2He or she pays close attention to the speaker.
3He or she tries to understand new or unfamiliar words spoken by the speaker from the context.
4He or she tries to keep listening even when he or she does not understand the speaker or disagrees with the speaker.
5He or she waits for the speaker to finish and is not afraid to ask polite questions.
6He or she notes down important points while listening and thinks carefully about what is spoken.

Q2. Listen carefully and guess how the sentence would end.

Ans:

(1) Once there was a crow. He was very thirsty. He wanted to drink some water.

(2) There were dark clouds in the sky. Soon, it began to rain.

(3) This step is broken. Please be careful.

(4) When the students saw the question paper, they were nervous.

(5) When the teacher read the answer papers, she was happy.

Q3. Listen carefully and write all the words correctly.

Ans:

(1) You are right. Write it down in the right hand corner.
(2) ‘I need two books.’ ‘Me, too.’ ‘I gave one to my sister.’
(3) He ate the whole apple but there were holes in the apple.
(4) Do you know the tale of the mouse who had seven tails? Please tell it to us.
(5) I knew you wanted new shoes.

💡 Remember: These are called Homophones — words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Listen carefully and use the correct spelling!

Students must listen to their teacher read these sentences aloud and write all the words correctly on their own in their notebooks.

(1) Sit quietly for some time. Close your eyes and listen carefully to all the sounds that you hear. Can you guess what sounds they are and who or what is making that sound? Note down what you heard.

Ans:

Students must sit quietly, close their eyes, listen carefully, and note down all the sounds they hear on their own. Try this at different times of the day — morning, afternoon, and evening — to hear different sounds!

(2) List 5 of the sounds that you like and 5 of the sounds that you don’t like.
