Subject: Request to organise an awareness lecture on ‘misuse of mobiles’
Respected Madam,
I am Saurabh, a student of Std X of your school. I wish to request you to organise an awareness lecture on ‘misuse of mobiles’ for the students of our school.
Recently, I read a newspaper report which said that uncontrolled use of mobile phones and video games is affecting school going children. Many of them suffer from eye strain, headaches, sleeplessness and back pain. Their studies and outdoor play are also suffering. Some of our own classmates spend long hours on phones and games.
An expert lecture will help students understand the harmful effects of mobile misuse and use phones wisely. I therefore request you to kindly arrange such a lecture at the earliest.
Thanking you.
Yours obediently,
Saurabh

My dear Rohan,
Hope you are doing well. I am fine here, and all at home are happy. I am writing this letter because I am worried about you.
Mummy told me that you spend many hours on your mobile phone and video games. I read in the newspaper that such uncontrolled use is harming school going children. It causes eye problems, headaches, poor sleep and tiredness. It also reduces our interest in studies and in playing outdoors with friends.
So, my dear brother, please use the phone only when it is really needed, and only for a short time. Spend more time on reading, drawing and playing in the ground. Your health and studies are more important than games.
Please follow my advice and give my love to Mummy and Papa.
Your loving brother,
Saurabh
How to write it

- Informal letter: sender’s address and date, “My dear…”, friendly opening, advice with reasons, “Your loving brother/sister”.
- Use the given situation in the body. Do not copy the clipping word for word.
- Use a polite tone for the formal letter and a warm, caring tone for the informal one.
