Chapter 4.8 – An Autumn Greeting
Paraphrase of the Poem
Ans: The poet beautifully describes the autumn season. During autumn, the leaves on the trees begin to change their colours. They turn red and gold and slowly start falling from the trees. As the weather becomes colder, snow begins to fall and cover the ground.
The journey of the leaves from the trees to the ground is helped by their friend, the wind. The wind invites the leaves to come across the meadows wearing their red and gold dresses and play with him. The wind also reminds the leaves that summer has ended and winter has begun.
The leaves seem to be waiting for the wind’s call. They come down from the trees fluttering, dancing, flying, and singing.
Their journey continues until they finally reach the ground, which becomes their earthy beds. There they fall into a deep sleep, while the snow gently covers their heads like a blanket.
